Costs

The costs below detail all the key costs for our trip which are based on 6 people, unfortunately 2 had to drop out at the last minute.

Ferry to France

Newhaven to Dieppe – £28pp (per person)
NOTE: if you do a return Newhaven to Dieppe trip it’s only a few pounds more than the single price.

Accommodation

Night 1 – on boat, free, hardly worth the price of a cabin for a few hours.
Night 2 – Les Chambres D’hotes du Confiturier de Malethi – £52pp, including evening meal and breakfast.
Nights 3&4 – La Proue Peniche Calyx – £46pp, for both nights including sheet/towels and cleaning charge, no food included.

Paris stuff

Blue Marble Storage – £10pp
Two single Metro+RER train fares between Paris & Vernouillet-Verneuil and back – £5 each

Train & Ferry to England

Train from Paris to Caen – £13pp
Caen to Portsmouth – £41pp

Total cost

£28 + £52 + £46 + £10 + £5 + £5 + £13 + £41
=£200

Extras and other stuff

Getting to London by car/train – my wife gave us a lift so the only cost was a little petrol
Next time I’d be inclined to get accommodation in Newhaven or Dieppe.
A return trip to/from Newhaven-Dieppe would cost £7(ish) more, potentially saving another £34.
The night in Lalandelle could be made a bit cheaper if you could eat out for less before you get there, but I wouldn’t, you’d miss half the fun of a night with Marie and Thierry.
The two nights on La Proue could be made £70 cheaper by taking your own sheets, duvet covers, towels and doing the cleaning before you leave. Honestly, it can’t be worth the extra weight and faff for another £11 each (if there’s six of you).
The self-catering facilities at La Proue means you can save a lot of money by not having to eat out and to be honest you’ll not find a nicer view than from the top deck with it’s BBQ-ing facilities.
Buying baguettes/cheese/ham each morning meant that our lunchtime picnics were cheap and more enjoyable as we could stop somewhere nice and not be limited to towns.
